
GW Instek AFG-3051
The GW Instek AFG-3051 is a 50 MHz arbitrary function generator for tasks where stable and controlled waveforms need to be generated in the laboratory or in test setups. It is used when more than a regular sine wave generator is needed, as it can provide both standard waveforms and custom signals.
You get a generator with built-in waveforms such as sine, square, ramp, pulse, noise, DC, sin(x)/x, exponential rise, exponential fall, and negative ramp. Additionally, it can work with arbitrary waveform data with a 200 MSa/s sample rate, 1M-point waveform length, and 16-bit amplitude resolution. This makes it suitable when a test signal needs to be adapted to a specific curve or sequence.
Outputs and operation are designed for practical use. The output level ranges from 10 mVpp to 10 Vpp at 50 Ω, or up to 20 Vpp without load. There is short-circuit protection, and the output impedance can be switched between 50 Ω and Hi-Z. The front panel features a 4.3" TFT LCD screen, and the instrument can be connected via GPIB, RS-232, and USB. There is also Direct Waveform Reconstruction (DWR), which is part of how the instrument handles waveforms.
In practice, it is an instrument for testing, troubleshooting, and development, where signals need to be recreated and varied in a controlled manner. Such functions are typical in electronics production, service, and laboratory work.
