Easy connection of batteries
Easy connection of batteries and charger/motor in electric cars with compact PerforMore connectors.
Stäubli has developed a series of connectors, PerforMore, which is on HIN's program. Despite their ultra-compact design, the connectors can withstand up to 1,000V/600A, and they make connecting batteries and chargers/drive systems in electric vehicles a breeze.
Many users of electric cars have probably noticed that it often requires some good upper arms to connect or disconnect the charging connection for charging the electric cars. Of course, you can't do much about the series-produced cars that come from China or the USA, and where the charging socket in the car is defined by the manufacturer. But there are other and better options in the connection between cable and charger - and internally in the battery stack in vehicles that are Western/European manufactured. It can make a lot of sense to be able to connect or disconnect the battery pack for service or replacement in professional vehicles. This is especially true in cases where a vehicle is supplied from multiple batteries that are replaced as needed if charging time is a problem - and/or the available charging current is limited.
With an eye on the LV215 charging standard, Swiss Stäubli has developed the very compact but high-performance PerforMore series of connectors for connecting high-power battery systems with the vehicle, charger or other places in the drive system where a non-permanent connection of high-voltage and high-current systems is necessary.
The PerforMore series of connectors can be supplied in protection classes up to IP68 and Ip6K9K according to the IEC60529 standard, and it provides very effective protection of the Ø10mm power pins, which are capable of transmitting max. 600A (at ambient temperature 40°C) at voltages up to 1,000V. Despite the high performance/power and protection class, the connectors in the series are extremely compact.
The mating of the PerforMore connectors is a two-step operation with first a loose insertion of the plug into the socket and then a locking with a rocker lever. This provides a mechanically very strong connection with good electrical shielding (90dB/2MHz) and resistance to vibrations, while at the same time being gentle and requiring little force.
Stäubli has developed their so-called MultiLAM socket technology for the female parts in both the PerforMore and several other of the company's programs, and these sockets can carry the very high currents with great safety due to the internal lamella structure, which ensures multiple contact points in the connection - and thus up to 600A in the case of the PerforMore series.
A sensor in the socket of the PerforMore connection protects against electric shocks in the event of accidental disconnections of the supply, as an HVIL (high-voltage interlock loop) signals separation and can interrupt the supply before final disconnection, so that separation occurs with the greatest possible safety.
Stäubli's PerforMore connectors provide easy and simple interconnection of batteries and driveline in electric cars and professional vehicles where easy and compact service and/or replacement of the battery pack is required.
Connecting professional vehicles to charging stations can be done with the IP68 and IP6K9K-tight PerforMore connectors. They also have a two-pole signal connection for built-in sensor or communication functions.
